Quiet Your Mind and Your Soul Will Speak
Have you considered meditation?
Meditation can not only help you reduce stress, but it also has many other benefits according to Emma Seppälä, Ph.D.
In her blog article at Psychology Today (https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/feeling-it/201309/20-scientific-reasons-start-meditating-today), Emma mentions that meditation has several scientifically-validated benefits which can improve your overall health and mind including a decrease in pain, increased brain growth, improved wisdom, and, interestingly enough, it can even help you in your social life. In addition to these wonderful traits, meditation can also improve your happiness by generating positive emotions and improving your compassion. In other words, meditation can help you on your journey to becoming your best version of yourself.
Emma also states that it will make you a more productive individual. (Doesn’t it seem counter-intuitive that doing nothing for a moment can make us more productive? Yet, that is the case!)
Her claims were supported by researchers from John Hopkins, who in 2013, published the results of their work in the Journal of the American Medical Association. They conducted 47 well-designed studies that concluded there is moderate evidence that meditation reduces anxiety, depression and pain.
In addition, researchers at the University of British Columbia concluded that the brains of meditators were structurally different from non-meditators. For instance, their cortex – the area associated with controlling impulses and maintaining attention – were found to have more tissue mass. Other parts of the brain, like the amygdala - a region of the brain linked with processing sadness, anxiety and other negative emotions – actually shrunk in size after participants regularly practiced meditation.
With all of these benefits and more, it makes sense for us to take a moment and meditate. To promote wellness we at DMS invite our hourly teammates to attend a daily “10-Minute Wellness Break” during their 3rd break and our salaried team members are invited to attend a 30-minute meditation session every Wednesday at 10:00 am.
It’s simple, those who meditate together, regulate and elevate together.
